I am an artist who makes intricately constructed paper-based sculptures. I am interested in the fashion this humble textile can open up a view into imagined worlds.

I began working with paper over 15 years ago. Over time, I became interested in how this simple material could encapsulate all my formal and conceptual interests. Newspaper comes in countless forms. It can exist used in multiple dimensions. It is like shooting fish in a barrel to handle and manipulate, and information technology is available anywhere. It is inherently ephemeral, but given the right atmospheric condition, it can last for centuries.

My current series of monochrome paper sculptures started around 5 years ago. For these works I transform paper's small nature by constructing objects that convey strength, intent, and durability, merely which also crave conscious ascertainment and care. They are at once abstract layers and shapes, and also structures that from 1 moment to the next suggest fortress-like constructions, tiered mandalas, or complex mechanical gears. Cut and assembled exclusively by hand, these works can take upwards to 500 hours to complete.

The broad aim of this investigation is to use iii-dimensional construction and intricate detailing to push the boundaries of paper art literally into a new dimension.
